Champions League Match week 4 Matches, Team news, Preview

The fourth week of action in the UEFA Champions League will come to an end with the final whistle in these matches, and judging by the games we have in our hands, we may be in for quite a treat when Wednesday's games kick off.

This could be quite a surprising week for some teams, as Napoli and Club Brugge may secure their spot in the next round when they were seen as Europa League material in their groups. Added to them, Bayern München may join them if they can claim a win against Viktoria Plzen, although they might have a tough time doing so since they will be playing that match away from home.

There will also be some interesting matches that require a bit more analysis, but for now, let us give you a glimpse of what Wednesday's games could bring for fans around the world.

Napoli vs Ajax

The Partenopei could seal their spot in the next round if they ara capable of beating the Dutch side one more time. The team led by Luciano Spalletti destroyed their rivals last week with an emphatic 6-1 win, and if they can come close to that score, they will secure their place in the knockout stage. On the other hand, Ajax need to steal points away from the Italian side since in any shape or form, especially since Liverpool could get closer to eliminating them in case the Reds are able to claim a win in their match against Rangers.

Atlético Madrid vs Club Brugge

The Spanish side is on the brink of elimination, and to make matters worse for them, they get to face the Belgian side that has dominated Group B right from the start. A loss, or even a draw for Simeone's men could be decisive for the team's future in the tournament, but a win here could do wonders for their cause and even keep them in the hunt for the top spot in the tournament. As for Club Brugge, the team could even draw this clash and keep their top spot intact, although their current form could very well see them getting a historic result for Belgian football.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Porto

The other match in Group B will have an interesting bonus, as coach Xabi Alonso will make his UEFA Champions League debut at the helm of the German side. Porto are still second in this group despite losing their first two matches of the competition, but Bayer's new coach may have some interesting ideas to try and turn things around. Home-field advantage could play a key role for Bayer in this game, especially since Porto have the worst defensive unit in this group with six goals allowed.

Rangers vs Liverpool

The Reds enter this match in one of their worst moments of the season. Klopp's men lost to Arsenal last weekend and their captain is being investigated for an alleged racial slur against a Gunners' footballer. Now, they must turn their sights on the UEFA Champions League, where they have a legitimate shot at claiming a spot in the next round if they can win here and it is combined with a loss by Ajax. On the other hand, Rangers have not been able to collect one point in the tournament, and if things continue their current course, their UEFA Champions League campaign could end this Wednesday if they can't find a way to beat Klopp's men.

Viktoria Plzen vs Bayern

Die Roten dominated the Czech side in their previous fixture last week, and there is no reason to believe that things could turn around in favor of Wednesday's hosts. Viktoria Plzen has been slammed back and forth by all their rivals in this group, scoring once and conceding twelve times. If the hosts want to turn things around, this is the right game to do so, but quite frankly, it seems highly unlikely to see the end of this game with a different result than Bayern claiming one more win and their ticket to the next round.

Sporting CP vs Olympique Marseille

One more match featuring the leaders of a group (Sporting) and the lower-ranked team (Marseille). The team from France made the most out of their match against the Lions last week with an emphatic 4-1 win, which represented their first victory in the competition. Now, the French side will want to claim one more win to boost their options to reach the next stage of the tournament, but Sporting's chances of success will improve vastly when playing at home.
